With looming skills shortages and an ageing workforce, is it a case of adapt or die for the Med-Tech industry?

The UK Med-Tech industry appears to have a fairly age-diverse workforce, including 27% graduates and 16% apprenticeships. However, the large proportion of retirement-age employees, as outlined in our infographic, means that the sector will need to rapidly upskill or recruit in order to fill the gaps left by departing employees. In fact, research suggests that in the UK alone, 6,000 technical apprentices and 10,000 professional graduates will have to be recruited each year for the next 10 years in order to sustain demand.

Innovations in technology, methods and processes are familiar ground for this sector, but to continue making the giant leaps forward that have defined the industry over the past 20 years, it’s clear that new blood must be attracted and retained.
